  Show Biz Bulletin

April 2016

Your name will appear in the Recital Program just as it appears at the top of this note.  If it is wrong, notify me immediately.

It is time to prepare for summer and fall classes.  You will received a registration card during Watch Day Week.  Please fill out the card and return it to me along with the $10.00 registration fee for the Summer Session and the 2016/17 school year.  This will reserve your place in summer and/or fall classes.

CD’s are being sent home with all students as they become available.  Please use them to practice!

All unpaid balances are due in full by April 15th.  There will be a $10.00 late fee added to any remaining balance after this date. Recital Costumes can not be sent home until all balances are paid.

RECITAL PREPARATION CLINIC   Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 pm

With the Recital season upon us, I realize that most of you have questions concerning costuming, hair, makeup, pictures, etc.  This clinic will address all of your questions.

I will show you the What, When, and How’s of applying make up to your child’s face.  I will show you how to put their hair in a bun, (Buns are required for EVERYONE in Recital.) how to attach hats and headpieces, and answer any questions you might have about preparing your child for the stage.  All of this is very quick, easy, and painless if you know what to do.

This Clinic is free.  I highly recommend that all Moms attend - especially Class Parents and anyone doing this for the first time.  Even if you are a Recital veteran, you might still have questions or learn a new trick to make Recital Day easier.  Children are not required to come with you.  You may come by yourself or bring your child if you plan to experiment on them as we go along.  Wear comfortable clothes as we may be sitting on the floor.

A sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.  You must sign up in advance.  Clinic dates and times are subject to change or cancel depending on the number of participates registered.

More about Bunheads – Everyone should have their hair in a bun for Recital.  Now I know some of you are saying – “My child doesn’t have long enough hair for a bun.” (It really takes less hair than you think).  I realize this, and if your child has very short hair, I will give you alternatives for hair that will work.

Having everyone’s hair up looks extremely neat and polished and uniform for the stage; it works better with hats and headpieces; it is so quick and easy and will save you time and money on Recital Day; everyone shows up better and is more distinguishable on stage and on the Recital video or DVD.

Saturday April 23 from 12 - 2 pm is OPEN HOUSE and Summer Registration for new students. The Dance Team will be hosting with demonstrations, prizes, a drawing for free dance school tuition, and much more!  Everyone is invited to come and celebrate with us!

We will also be registering NEW students at this time. If you know anyone who is interested in enrolling for summer classes, please pass along this information.  I will be awarding a credit of $25 for new student referrals. If a new student registers for summer classes and lists you as a referral, you will receive a credit of $25!  Tell all your friends!

Recital Picture Day is Friday, April 29th, at the dance school.  The photographer is Jim Haley.  He is a local professional photographer with dance picture experience.  An appointment schedule is posted in the lobby.  The photographer will begin at 1:00 pm and continue until 6:30 p.m.  There is NO obligation to purchase pictures, but you must have your picture made in order to appear on the 2016 school display.  If your child has more than one costume, it is your decision which costume they should wear for pictures.  If you would like to purchase pictures in both costumes, you are welcome to have pictures made in both.  Hair can be styled any way you like (no hair requirements for pictures) Make-up is optional and left to your discretion.  I want you to like your child’s pictures.  Fix her/him the way you like best.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.  If you have a time conflict, please discuss it with me – I am here to help!  I want every dancer represented on the composite. We have a new photography company this year.  I they will show you your pictures on a laptop and take your picture order/payment at the time of pictures. I will have your picture packages at the dance school or Recital morning for you.  The photographer takes checks, card and cash.  Please come prepared to purchase pictures on Picture Day.  You will also pick your Composite picture at that time.

Recital Day is Saturday, May 14, 2016.  Dress Rehearsal is at 10:00 a.m. and show time is 7:00 p.m.  Both are held at The Grand Opera House.  Recital volunteers are needed for jobs before, during, and after Recital.  See Cindy for more information.  Please help!  Class Parents, I am already depending on you to work backstage with your child’s class.  If you are not going to work, please let me know immediately.  The May Bulletin will have a detailed schedule of that day.

A ticket is required in order to be part of the Recital audience. Everyone, no matter what age, will need to purchase a ticket.  (Dancers and backstage help do NOT need a ticket)

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RECITAL TICKETS – The Grand Opera House has taken over all of their event ticket sales.  You will be purchasing Recital Tickets at the Grand Opera House ONLY. Tickets will cost $8.00. You can purchase your tickets at the box office in advance, by phone, or online (which I don’t recommend because it costs more/additional $1.75per ticket) or at the box office the day of Recital during dress rehearsal and before show time (Don’t recommend waiting until the last minute because we have sold out in the past).  Tickets will go on sell Friday, April 29th.

  • I may be able to sell tickets at the dance school.  If so, I will have them starting Friday, April 29.

The Recital will be professionally taped this year by my former student and dear friend, Emily Alford Harp.  Emily is a professional videographer an has a company called Shining Star Media.  She has produced Recital in the past, many times and I am SO glad she is coming back this year.  An order form will be in your May Bulletin. (DVD $35.00 and Blu Ray 40.00)

Recital is in 5 weeks!! A good show depends on good attendance. Don’t miss class!

The school term ends on May 14, 2016.  No classes after Recital.
